Why did God turn everybody white?

Which verse says we started out black? I am not sure what colour we started out, but due to migration patterns, those who lived closer to the equator had darker skin and those who lived far from it had lighter skin. As far as I'm aware, Moses was Middle-Eastern. Wasn't he born in Egypt or Israel?
