Is dropping an year after class 12 a good idea?

My bro scored 62% marks in the science stream...he was not provided with any coaching for the entrance exams, except a crash course for a month...he does not seem to clear any of the engineering entrance exams this time...he wants to take up game development as a career...for which he wants to pursue a degree in computer science first and then look for any advanced courses for gaming abroad...i have negligible idea of the industry in india, but if he goes abroad, there will be immense scope...however, he would be eligible enough for any good university abroad, only if he belongs to a good college in india and gets a good engineering degree from here. In that case, would it be wise to drop an year and prepare for entrance exams...he isn't rigid about getting into the iit's or nit's only...he will be writing around 5 to 6 entrance exams, for which if he prepares himself well, he could get into a good college of his choice...at present we won't be able to pay donations to any of the private colleges and also we don't know which would be a reliable one. Since he isn't clearing any of the entrance exams this year, we have all doors closed...if we put him up with the best package and a good institute like FIITJEE, would it be wise to drop an year...he is hard working and will give his best shot...but is it right to go for an year drop??How will it effect his future??
