Their life spans are 50 to 60 years in protected environments. The juvenile orangutans take longer than either gorillas or chimpanzees to mature but less time than a human. Orangutans finish juvenile development as late as 6 or 7 and enter adolescence. While females can reach puberty at 8 years female orangutans can give first birth as late as 14 or 15. The larger males take longer to finish growing and can be 18 before they are mature.
